Powerful Questions for the New Year

New Year. New You. New Questions.

Below are some questions to ask yourself this year to change your perspective, get you unstuck, and keep you creative.

What if everyone was your ally?

Our “tribe” has changed. No longer can we rely on Dunbar’s number of 150 people in a tribe. Why? Because we now have digital footprints with everyone we interact or work with. That person that makes it hard for you to get your work done will now stay connected to you forever, if not you directly, then through your networks in LinkedIn. We can no longer afford to have enemies. Plus, everyone’s just trying to do the best they can, what if you could unite around accomplishing your best together?

Do you prefer a work crisis over patience and trust?

Most people I work with in the Western world seem to be on a turbulent roller coaster of victory then crisis that mobilizes them to another victory. When teams are focused and working on a stable goal, leaders begin to get antsy, and start manufacturing crisis….through questioning priorities, raising risks, finding flaws, or, even catching up with important matters that weren’t urgent.

What am I creating?

This question works well to keep you focused forward. In moments of fist clenching frustration, this question reminds you that you co-create the future. Remind yourself what you REALLY want to create (double your salary, be the best <fill in the blank> that you’ve ever seen, etc), so you can stop focusing on what’s stopping you, and start focusing on what will propel you forward.
